What does wellness mean to me? Reflections from the Mother's Day Pop at the Wellness Hut

Wellness is more than a clay face mask.

On Friday, 9 May, I delivered our first two deliveries to Port Moresby based clients packages to Post PNG Vanimo.

The package consisted of:

1) Coco Loco Tote Cotton Tote Bag;

As usual in the hope of servicing others it made me realise the importance of my own wellness and self-care as well.

In the pursuit of serving others self-care mine had completely vanished. It was at the Wellness Hut where my own self-care rituals became the focus. The next morning, sitting on my yoga mat, I unpacked my toiletry bags and books looking for small curios I could set up as an inspired impromptu market to complement the morning cafe pop-up. Alongside that I packed the 2 x potted plants from Coco Loco Botanicals and my learning sewing bag and mini sewing machine for Tai'ta Siare & Co a wellness sleep hygiene brand I created last year in church inspired by my my maternal grandmother from Yule Island. As I type this, it is 2.43am and I have received a Facebook notification that my cousin, Samantha loves my story. Ironic that I am up this early writing about sleep hygiene.

Need some purifying indoor plants, enquire with Coco Loco Botanicals for our collection.

Wellness to me means investing in the best versions of ourselves so we can show up for the world in our optimal health - mentally, physically, spiritually, financially, in the pursuit of our calling. We cannot serve others in a hospital bed, ill, depressed, in a none optimal state.

The balance and coordination of all these facets are not essential but crucial to how to fundamentally perform and operate as a society.

As I closed and packed my suitcases, bags and hut as a result of a youth fight 20m away on Mother's Day it dawned on me, how can resolving youth underemployment and conflict resolution skills be define the social impact of the brand.

These issues are real. Wellness is real. How can we foster discussions around this in every little right nook in the road of our country in villages, settlements, streets

Before I went to bed the challenge appeared imminent. I need to scale. This led to me deciding then to host a pop-up wellness themed pop-up in our sister city, Jayapura, Papua, Indonesia. Inspired by the finalists of the Lily Magaxine Homemade competition the decision has been made to stock some of these products because as an entrepreneur myself, I have an even greater respect for the discipline and work ethic of creators. It is easy to be a consumer of a good not a creator.

But we must not burn our own selves out. Balancing these responsibilities is what wellness means to me. We cannot grow if we are villages and streets consisting of unhinged, sleep-deprived, uninspired, unincluded supply chains.

If you find value in our content and mission, consider supporting us to continue promoting wellness in our communities here.

How do we make sure we show up for farmers in Yakamul, by showing up for ourselves.
